One of the most famous cities in the world has its fair share of mansions for the rich people of the city. Take a look inside the 10 most expensive houses in Edinburgh with their old world, traditional charm, but be warned, your envy levels will rise.
One thing I noticed is that unlike the most expensive houses in London, the houses in Edinburgh don’t come with a lot of luxuries like home cinemas, indoor pools, underground garages and so on. Nor are they particularly modern. While you need to be a multi-millionaire to buy one of the most expensive houses in Edinburgh, they are far, far cheaper than the big houses in London – and you get far more for your money as well in terms of size and garden.
1. Boraston House, Ravelston Dykes Road – £3,250,000
The most expensive house in Edinburgh is £3.25 million pounds. For that you get an incredible seven bedrooms and four bathrooms. The Boraston House mansion itself is set in two acres of grounds meaning that you’ve got plenty of room for entertaining in the summer months. This is also the biggest house in Edinburgh with over 7,000 square feet of floor space. You’re going to need a full-time cleaner to keep this place clean!

4. Kinellan Road, Murrayfield – £2,000,000
One of the few modern expensive houses in Edinburgh, this bright and airy six bedrooms and six bathroom house has over 5,000 square feet of living space. Given the proximity to the Hearts football club, I wonder if it belongs to one of the players? Do SPL players get paid enough to drop £2million on a house? Kinellan Road has some of the biggest houses in Edinburgh, so it would make sense for it to be a footballer hotspot.

5. Carlton Street, Stockbridge – £1,950,000
Seven bedrooms and three bathrooms. If you have a full house there better be a good bathroom schedule in the mornings! Still, with this period townhouse you are right in the thick of things in the city with parks and botanical gardens nearby and the city centre just a short walk away. You’d feel pretty satisfied with yourself if you managed to nab this expensive house in Edinburgh!

6. Barnton Loan, Edinburgh – £1,950,000
Now this six bedrooms and six bathroom house in Edinburgh feels like it was made for entertaining guests. Sure, the decor is a little Mum and Dad, bordering on Grandparenty, but if you bought it, then it would have incredible potential.

7. Murrayfield Road, Edinburgh – £1,600,000
This is a really modern house, just the exteriors show that a modern style was important to the builder. I’m not sure, but the pool table, juke box and darts board in the kitchen suggests to me that this might, just might, be a footballer’s house belonging to a Hearts FC player. What do you think? It is right next to the stadium, after all. With six bedrooms and six bathrooms I think this is my favourite most expensive house in Edinburgh.

8. Newbattle Terrace, Edinburgh – £1,595,000
I wasn’t expecting much from this five bedrooms and three bathroom house, but inside it is surprisingly nice. It’s one of the smaller houses in this of most expensive houses in Edinburgh, but it still feels really cosy.

9. Ann Street, Stockbridge – £1,500,000
The smallest house on the list, you don’t get too much for your £1.5 million. It’s got Four bedrooms and three bathrooms – even my parents’ house has that many, and it definitely doesn’t cost this much. Inside this house it’s a bit plain Jane, I think the decor needs an overhaul to completely modernise it. Still, my parents don’t live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, so there’s that.

10. The Hermitage, Gillespie Road, Colinton – £1,450,000
Now if you’re a millionaire and you want bang for your buck, this expensive house on the outskirts of Edinburgh might be what you’re looking for. It’s the second biggest house on this list and has the most number of bedrooms. With eight bedrooms and four bathrooms, you’re never going to run out of space if you live here.

Which expensive house in Edinburgh would you choose to live in?
Whether you want some city living or something a bit more rural, Edinburgh has beautiful mansions to cater to all tastes. That said, I do feel that in most of these houses the decor is a little old and dated. Maybe classic is the right word to use?
